Tottenham transfer part of Juventus investigation

Spurs are under the spotlight given that the £47m summer signing of Christian Romero is part of the investigation into allegations of fraud against Juventus, the Mail reports. Romero left Juventus for Atalanta for just £13.5m in the summer, and on the same day joined Tottenham on an initial season-long loan with an option to buy. It is one of 42 transfers that Italian police are considering after allegations of false accountability at Juventus.

Barcelona confirms pursuit of Torres

Barcelona have confirmed that they are chasing Manchester City’s Ferran Torres, the Mail reports. At the weekend the newspaper claimed Barcelona were keen to sign the Spain striker in January, and after Barcelona chief executive Ferran Riverter and director of football Matteo Alemani visited City last week, vice-president Rafael Yuste admitted talks are underway as they look to sign the agreement. 21 years. “Veran is a great player and we are working with caution,” said Yuste. “We have friends in Manchester City and there is a good relationship.”

Paper Tour Width: Often the clubs are not very open about it, with quotes at least. There is talk that it could cost at least £40m, so where exactly is that money coming from at Barcelona? Perhaps it is best to wait and see if this goes ahead first, before we wonder how the debt-laden club is still making such transfers possible.

Rangnick Pogba’s mission

Although Lionel Messi’s seventh Ballon d’Or win largely dominated the course of events on Monday night, three of Tuesday’s UK newspapers chose to highlight how the appointment of Ralf Rangnick at Manchester United will have a big say in Paul Pogba’s future. Express, Star and Mirror have gone with Pogba and Rangnick on their back page, saying that United’s new interim president – then chancellor for two years – will have to make the French midfielder’s future one of his priorities as his contract expires in the summer.

Paper Tour Width: Rangnick’s arrival at Pogba has been transformed a bit, but the midfielder will be used to seeing his face on the back pages for no reason yet. That’s nothing new, and it’s hard to see Rangnick’s appointment changing often – what matters are the contract offers coming in from January. Paris Saint-Germain? real Madrid? Barcelona? We’ll find out soon.

Chelsea, appointed Bayern Chiesa

Federico Chiesa is being monitored by Chelsea and Bayern Munich, The Sun reports. The Italian attacking midfielder has been linked with a £84m move to Chelsea, and while Juventus are reluctant to sell the 24-year-old – who is said to be happy in Turin – things could change if the club fail to finish in the top four. A poor start to the season saw Juventus sit seventh in the table after 14 games, seven points behind Atalanta in fourth.

Paper Tour Width: Juventus are missing in the Champions League. It almost happened last season, but it would still send a huge shockwave around Italian football if it really did happen this time around. Napoli are doing their best to stay ahead of Inter Milan and AC Milan, and with Atalanta not far from Juventus, there is a lot to do. He failed to finish fourth and it may not be just a matter of considering Chiesa’s options.

Walked to Inter?

The Sun reports that Malang Sarr could be offered a path out of Chelsea with Inter Milan interested in the defender. Sarr, 22, joined Chelsea from Nice in 2020, and although the French centre-back signed a five-year contract, he then moved on loan to Porto last season. He eventually made his Chelsea debut in September, but after three games under Thomas Tuchel, Sarr could move to Italy in the January transfer window.

Paper Tour Width: Triple appearances, two in the League Cup and one in the Premier League against Brentford when Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva were absent, may not be enough to convince Sarr he has a future at Chelsea. However, Rudiger could leave for free and Silva in really good shape and in “veteran” status, so there might be room if Tuchel thinks Sarr has the potential to replace them in one day.
