Marcus Rashford dedicated his MBE to his mother as he pledged there was more in his campaign to help disadvantaged children.
The England and Manchester United striker said his motivation was to give the country’s youth things they didn’t have when they grew up and stressed that every child deserves a “chance”.
He was described as “brilliant” from the public’s sympathy and support for himself and his colleagues in England, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka, after they were subjected to racist abuse after the national team’s defeat in the Euro 2020 final against Italy.
The Manchester United star is unusual in launching his campaign while still playing but emphasized: “Why wait? There is no point in waiting. Children are suffering, families need help and they are not receiving the help they need.”
Rashford went on to praise his mother for the support she gave him despite being a single parent: “So all the awards I got for my charitable work went to all of them and you will join them too.
“Without her I would not have the morals that I have because all I have learned I have learned from her.
“She’s the reason I got this so you should get it.”
