Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reviews Manchester City’s defeat

Manchester United suffered another devastating 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester City on Saturday.

Eric Bailly set an own goal before Bernardo Silva added the second after the first half after David de Gea saved a series of great saves.

But the away team lowered the tempo in the second half to show great management of the game, denying United any important openings and maintaining control throughout.

It comes on the heels of the club’s 5-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford just weeks ago, with anxious fans now desperate to see some positive changes within the squad after the international break.

Here’s a roundup of the fallout and some of the biggest Manchester United news headlines.

Cristiano Ronaldo frustrations

Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Manchester City added weight to claims of dissonance in ranks, specifically between Cristiano Ronaldo and Mason Greenwood.

There was a clear lack of synergy in United’s toothless attack and they only packed one shot on target against City.

It was reported in late October that Portugal captain Ronaldo was frustrated by Greenwood’s tendency to shoot from sight rather than looking to help him early in the season.

The 20-year-old is seen as an outstanding goalscorer, but Ronaldo is undoubtedly the focal point in attack and requires a selfless partner in Edinson Cavani’s model to thrive.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prepares for a change

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows his side need a result in their next game against Watford, with former United captain Roy Keane suggesting another setback could be the last straw for his former teammate and urging his old club to “draw the line”.

However, as he prepares to take his team to Vicarage Road, Solskjaer appears to have changed the pipeline.

United have lined up three centre-backs in each of their last three games against Tottenham Hotspur, Atalanta and Manchester City, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw on the right and left.

However, they did not finish the hat-trick of matches in the same order, with injury to Raphael Varane resulting in a change of formation at Bergamo and a 2-0 deficit in the first half on Saturday leading to a similar substitution for Jadon Sancho. Replace Eric Bailey.

Solskjaer has been challenged when it comes to absorbing the wealth of offensive talent at his disposal, sacrificing a bit more body firepower in defense in recent matches, and his comments about the upcoming game suggest a change is underway.

United ’embarrassing’

Danny Murphy claims there is an “embarrassing” gap in quality between Manchester United and their rivals.

Solskjaer was mocked at chants of “Ole at the wheel” by the visiting team during the Manchester derby, while Liverpool fans mocked the Norwegian.

Murphy has announced that rival fans desperately want Solskjaer to keep his job, which means United’s captains must make a change in the dugout.
