Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo to start – Manchester United predicted line-up vs Man City

Manchester United welcome Manchester City at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer survived Liverpool’s defeat to remain in charge of United in the Reds’ matches against Tottenham and Atalanta, but the pressure on the Norwegian remains great in the face of the most important Manchester derby.

United were twice behind against Atalanta in the middle of the week in the Champions League, but Cristiano Ronaldo’s double saved the tie.

Ronaldo has now scored a total of nine goals in 12 games since returning to the club on deadline day, and he is hoping to continue in that rich vein against City this weekend – Pep Guardiola’s side have conceded just six league goals, however.

David de Gea should have done better in Atalanta’s opener on Tuesday night, but it was the first questionable goal the Spaniard has conceded in an otherwise fantastic season, and he is a key player among the sticks against City on Saturday.

Solskjaer used the 5-3-2 method again against Atalanta, however, and he had to return to a 4-2-3-1 during that match. Raphael Varane suffered a hamstring injury in Italy, which led to this tactical change, and he was ruled out for about a month.

Although Varane is out through injury, it looks like Solskjaer could pick five in defense against a strong City side here and that means we could see Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Eric Bailly, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw start the defence.

Lindelof suffered a blow in training earlier this week but Solskjaer confirmed on Friday that the Swede was in contention to start.

Fred and Scott McTominay have impressed Tottenham and can rekindle their trusting relationship in midfield.

Donny van de Beek came in in place of Bruno Fernandes in the middle of the week, but the latter was an inevitable start against City.

Marcus Rashford started at Bergamo and Mason Greenwood provided a superb assist from the bench, but Edinson Cavani and Ronaldo excelled together in a pivotal point of attack against Spurs and the experienced pair could start again.

United XI prediction against City: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw, McTominay, Fred, Fernandes, Ronaldo, Cavani.
