Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham believes his former club should “look to win” the Champions League this season with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese striker scored late goals against Villarreal and Atalanta, including the equalizer in extra time in Italy on Tuesday.
Thanks to Ronaldo’s efforts, United topped Group F with seven points from their first four European matches, two points behind Atalanta in third place.
And Sheringham, who won the Champions League with Manchester United in 1999, believes Ronaldo and his teammates can move forward this season.
Speaking to Genting Casino, he said: “When you have Ronaldo in your squad, you look forward to winning him.

“Ronaldo will be looking to win it – he has done it before on many occasions and he will want to win it again.
“Things change very quickly and all United need is to go to the next level and after that result [vs Atalanta]United are well positioned to reach the next level.
“You never know what’s going to happen. They might support Ole in the next transfer window and United could have a better squad by then, but for now, it’s all about getting there.”
United have had a difficult season so far under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, collecting just four points from their last four Premier League games.
The performances weren’t good enough, and while many believe Ronaldo can win a sixth Champions League title, few support him to do so under the Norwegian.
Speaking after Liverpool’s 5-0 win at Old Trafford in October, Sky Sports analyst Jamie Carragher said: “Solskjaer will not win the league title or the Champions League title as Manchester United manager.
“He is not at the level of other managers, in terms of Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel or Pep Guardiola.
“They have years of experience behind them in terms of winning the big trophies. Ole didn’t get that. So, where he’s got it now – he’s done a really good job.
“But this team is a good team. I don’t think it’s a poor team. I think it’s a great group of people.”
After his double against Atalanta on Tuesday, Ronaldo has now scored nine goals in 11 matches in all competitions since returning to United on the appointed day.
The striker is close to 700 goals in club football and Sheringham believes he remains one of the best players on the planet, despite turning 36 in February.

The former Premier League star added: “That’s why when the opportunity to sign a player of Ronaldo’s caliber appears, you have to seize them.
“For me, he’s one of the best players in the world, and he’s been for the last twelve years – he’s amazing.
“He’s a killer, he knows how to score goals, he’s so focused, he’s so professional. He’s unbelievable. Where would they be without him? I’m not sure.”
